The project seeks to identify the factors that influence or determine one’s ability to move up the economic ladder. What are the channels by which economic advantage or disadvantage is transmitted from parent to child? Through analysis of a broad range of factors, led by a team of researchers from The Heritage Foundation, the project will produce a report on indicators of mobility. It will address how different types of capital influence one’s economic mobility. What role does social capital such as social networks or other cultural factors play in an individual or family’s economic mobility? How does human capital, such as health and education, affect economic mobility? And finally, what role does financial capital, like savings and asset accumulation, play in economic mobility?
